Diversity statements are a key el
ement of business communications for stakeholders, customers/clients, and e
mployees. However, writing an ethical diversity statement that acknowledges
the past, present, and future is not an easy feat. During this presentatio
n, you will feel empowered to write/update a diversity statement that refle
cts the diversity, equity, and inclusion values your organization holds. Yo
u will also learn to express the DEI commitments you hold ethically and aut
hentically.

Emily Perry Previous to her role at The Gathering Place, E
mily used her experience as a crisis line responder and domestic violence s
helter advocate to address systemic barriers to programs and services that
many marginalized communities face. She is committed to advocating for indi
vidual civil and human rights and working with organizations to commit to a
social justice framework that promotes utilizing the law as a starting poi
nt and expanding services beyond those requirements. Emily worked in disability support and accessibility
services for five years and focused on reviewing and updating policies and
procedures that disproportionately impact students of color, low-income stu
dents, students with disabilities, and students coping with trauma. While a
t the Colorado Community College System, she provided faculty and staff wit
h educational opportunities to increase their awareness around implicit bia
s, anti-racism, institutional barriers, and decolonizing and removing white
supremacy culture at work.
Emil
y has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to inclusive engagement of empl
oyees, equitable policies, employee and organizational empowerment, self-li
beration, legal compliance, and life-long learning. She continues to presen
t to a multitude of organizations and institutions on topics, such as acces
s and equity, ADA and Section 504 compliance, ethics in Human Resources, an
d trauma-informed care. She is excited to continue sharing her passions wit
h you.
